Iatrogenic acute angle closure glaucoma masked by general anaesthesia and intensive care.
Acute angle closure glaucoma is a medical emergency which can result in blindness. As it is very painful patients are usually referred rapidly to an ophthalmologist. If it occurs following general anaesthesia however, the diagnosis may not be considered and symptoms such as pain and vomiting wrongly attributed. Delayed diagnosis puts the patient at risk both from the ocular complications of acute angle closure glaucoma, and also from inappropriate investigation and intervention. We report an illustrative case where bilateral acute angle closure glaucoma followed a general anaesthetic. The correct diagnosis was delayed for 11 days
The Mass Assembly of Fossil Groups of Galaxies in the Millennium Simulation
The evolution of present-day fossil galaxy groups is studied in the
Millennium Simulation. Using the corresponding Millennium gas simulation and
semi-analytic galaxy catalogues, we select fossil groups at redshift zero
according to the conventional observational criteria, and trace the haloes
corresponding to these groups backwards in time, extracting the associated dark
matter, gas and galaxy properties. The space density of the fossils from this
study is remarkably close to the observed estimates and various possibilities
for the remaining discrepancy are discussed. The fraction of X-ray bright
systems which are fossils appears to be in reasonable agreement with
observation, and the simulations predict that fossil systems will be found in
significant numbers (3-4% of the population) even in quite rich clusters. We
find that fossils assemble a higher fraction of their mass at high redshift,
compared to non-fossil groups, with the ratio of the currently assembled halo
mass to final mass, at any epoch, being about 10 to 20% higher for fossils.
This supports the paradigm whereby fossils represent undisturbed, early-forming
systems in which large galaxies have merged to form a single dominant

A Deep Radio Survey of Abell 2125 III: The Cluster Core - Merging and Stripping
We use radio, near-IR, optical, and X-ray observations to examine dynamic
processes in the central region of Abell 2125. In addition to the central
triple, including members of both major dynamical subsystems identified from a
redshift survey, this region features a galaxy showing strong evidence for
ongoing gas stripping during a high-velocity passage through the gas in the
cluster core. The disk galaxy C153 exhibits a plume stretching toward the
cluster center seen in soft X-rays by Chandra, parts of which are also seen in
[O II] emission and near-UV continuum light. HST imaging shows a distorted
disk, with star-forming knots asymmetrically distributed and remnant spiral
structure possibly defined by dust lanes. The stars and ionized gas in its disk
are kinematically decoupled, demonstrating that pressure stripping must be
important, and that tidal disruption is not the only mechanism at work.
Comparison of the gas properties seen in the X-ray and optical data on the
plume highlight significant features of the history of stripped gas in the
intracluster medium. The nucleus of C153 also hosts an AGN, shown by the weak
and distorted extended radio emission and a radio compact core. The unusual
strength of the stripping signatures in this instance is likely related to the
high relative velocity of the galaxy with respect to the intracluster medium,
during a cluster/cluster merger, and its passage very near the core of the
cluster. Another sign of recent dynamical events is diffuse starlight
asymmetrically placed about the central triple in a cD envelope. Transient and
extreme dynamical events as seen in Abell 2125 may be important drivers of

Manufacturing costs: whole milk creameries
Dairying in Iowa has been an essential part of most farm operations. The skim milk resulting from farm separation of the cream has been a useful supplement to com in the swine feeding operations which constitute the most important single phase of Iowa agriculture. Because of this relationship between dairying and hog farming, the dairy processing industry in Iowa has been based primarily on one product, butter, and most of this has been manufactured in creameries receiving only farm-separated cream. Many of these creameries were established 50-60 years ago when the roads and transportation facilities of the time dictated the need for many local plants which tended to remain small. Over the years this system of dairy marketing has persisted in Iowa. Observation of a Large Atomic Parity Violation Effect in Ytterbium
Atomic parity violation has been observed in the 6s^2 1S0 - 5d6s 3D1 408-nm
forbidden transition of ytterbium. The parity-violating amplitude is found to
be two orders of magnitude larger than in cesium, where the most precise
experiments to date have been performed. This is in accordance with theoretical
predictions and constitutes the largest atomic parity-violating amplitude yet
observed. This also opens the way to future measurements of neutron skins and
anapole moments by comparing parity-violating amplitudes for various isotopes
and hyperfine components of the transition
A New Approach for Near-Field Wideband Synthetic Aperture Beamforming
A coarray-based synthetic aperture beamformer using stepped-frequency signal synthesis and post-data acquisition processing is presented for wideband imaging of near-field scenes. The proposed beamformer formulation and implementation finds key applications in through-the-wall microwave imaging and landmine detection problems. While coarray techniques offer significant reduction in array elements for a given angular resolution, stepped-frequency realization of wideband systems simplifies implementation and offers flexibility in beamforming. Proof of concept is provided using real data collected in an anechoic chamber

A Wideband, Synthetic Aperture Beamformer for Through-The-Wall Imaging
A coarray-based aperture synthesis scheme using subarrays and post-data acquisition beamforming is presented for through-the-wall wideband microwave imaging applications. Various effects of the presence of the wall, such as refraction, change in speed, and attenuation, are incorporated into the beamformer design. Simulation results verifying the proposed synthetic aperture technique for a TWI system are presented. The effects of incorrect estimates of the parameters of the wall, such as thickness and dielectric constant, on performance are investigated
Spectral functions of isoscalar scalar and isovector electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon at two-loop order
We calculate the imaginary parts of the isoscalar scalar and isovector
electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon up to two-loop order in chiral
perturbation theory. Particular attention is paid on the correct behavior of Im
and Im at the two-pion threshold
in connection with the non-relativistic 1/M-expansion. We recover the
well-known strong enhancement near threshold originating from the nearby
anomalous singularity at . In the
case of the scalar spectral function Im one finds a significant
improvement in comparison to the lowest order one-loop result. Higher order
-rescattering effects are however still necessary to close a remaining
20%-gap to the empirical scalar spectral function. The isovector electric and
magnetic spectral functions Im get additionally enhanced near
threshold by the two-pion-loop contributions. After supplementing their
two-loop results by a phenomenological -meson exchange term one can
reproduce the empirical isovector electric and magnetic spectral functions
